Enhancing access to GP services
Patients can talk to their GP, nurse or any other members of a multi-disciplinary team by phone or by Skype. They have access to the team from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. They can manage their health online, with access to their medical records, quality-assured videos about common conditions and an app through which they can book routine or same-day appointments.
Provider and commissioner view
Access prevents ill health by supporting self-care. It enhances access to primary care, reducing the need for emergency hospital admissions. Having the multi-disciplinary team based in one location with access to the patient’s records helps co-ordinate care making it both more efficent and integrated. Patients who are in position to take advantage of Skype access enjoy the convenience.
